Recruit Events Group Leader
As stated in the 2020 annual report, the CiviCRM Core Team is stepping back from any role in producing events, with the exception of the annual community summit. Also stated in the report, the Core Team would like to see more group leaders take over management of various aspects of the project. This issue is raised to determine specifically if an Events Group leader is needed, to highlight potential responsibilities, and to discuss the process of leading the group.
Potential responsibilities
In conjunction with the CiviCRM community (in no particular order):
- Provide a contact point for community members seeking to run an event.
- Assist in the coordination and promotion of community events, be they camps, cons, sprints, meetups, etc..
- Manage the gitlab and mattermost project and channels associated with events.
- Identify opportunities for events to form and perform outreach to encourage growth of events.
- Coordinate and promote a list of external events.
- Ensure all documentation related to the production and operation of events is up to date.
- Establish guidelines to help encourage and facilitate events, and to ensure some minimum compliance (require privacy policies, code of conduct, etc.)
- Establish how events are managed on civicrm.org including types of, promotion, user permissioning, etc.
- Mediate disputes or issues related to events, and escalate appropriately if needed.
- Communicate with and update other group leaders on events.
- Report on community contributions related to events to the CiviCRM Core Team or to the responsible group for managing community engagement.
- Identify and cultivate potential replacements for the group leader role and assist in the process of succession.
Role
The events group leader is tasked with assisting in the coordination and growth of events for CiviCRM. This is a volunteer role that requires consistent communication with various community members and with members of the marketing group. Given the potential significance of events for CiviCRM, a 1 year commitment to manage this group is needed.
Decision Needed
Please review this thread and use the thumbs up or down under the description to express your support for or against a single group leader for events.
- Thumbs up if we want a single group leader
- Thumbs down if we feel like we should tackle these via a flatter structure.
- Other reactions will be considered "abstain"
