This page will try to weigh the pros and cons of splitting civicrm.org into a community site (civicrm.org) and a commercial site (civicrm.com). This is currently under evaluation as we plan for a transition off of D7.

It is assumed that, if the sites are split, there will be significant overlap between the two.

# Advantages
|
|
|
|
|
|
- Allows for clarity of message.
|
|
|
- .org would remain the community site and would be focused on 1) defining CiviCRM for new users and 2) for onboarding community members. The site would would serve to promote CiviCRM's advantages consistent with its [brand](https://lab.civicrm.org/marketing/branding), would provide access to the download, and to resources consistent with learning about CiviCRM the software.

- .org would more clearly serve as the starting point for developers and for users that want to engage more with the community.
|
|
|
- Creates a more highly visible commercial site for paid services and for experts
|
|
|
- .com becomes the central listing partners and contributors, providing greater opportunity to promote them.
|
|
|
- .com becomes a marketplace for partner-driven and CT driven services (ESR, Spark, Civi911, CiviCareers, CI, etc.)
|

- Additional infrastructure to manage

- Potential negative impact to SEO |
