# 2016-04-18 Toolkit second meeting
Participants:
* Michael McAndrew
* Alejandro Salgado
* Joshua Gowans
Summary:
Different approaches were discussed for revamping the project of having international sites as part of CiviCRM project:
1 - Sections inside CiviCRM.org
Having sections inside civicrm.org website with a landing page per country and pointers to some common areas like blog, partners.
2 - Individual Micro sites per country
This was the original approach, working on tools to help partners to create, host and maintain local sites per country.
3 - Multisite for international chapters
One Drupal multi-site web which will be used to create sites per chapter with common assets (theme, centralized user database, etc.). A good example for this is wordpress.org approach:
* Global site: https://wordpress.org/
* English - Canada site: https://en-ca.wordpress.org/
* Spanish - Spain site: https://es.wordpress.org/
* Spanish - Argentina site: https://es-ar.wordpress.org/
Before going into a deep analysis, we thought that it might be good to list which sections will be necessary for a local minisite (a very good expample is civicrmfr.org):
* Blog
* Translated summary of features
* Tools and tweaks for specific localization needs
* extensions that provide locally needed functionality (e.g. donation receipts), special language requirements etc.
* could be amended to the feature overview
* List of partners working on the country
* Local events
* Link to local forum with latest news
* Download link with translated explanation
* Short background info community, open source, ways to contribute...
* Link to localized demo site
* Case studies from local organizations?
* Local ambassadors?

Aims of the local websites (good example http://www.civicrmfr.org/):
* Communication & promotion:
* Get Help
* Get involved
Main components of the "Toolkit"
Pre-built Drupal site with a Theme based on the new civicrm.org and a basic structure of menus, blocks and sections
Guidelines for interacting with Civicrm community and getting the "Site supported by CiviCRM" branding (also a link to your site from civicrm.org!)
A roadmap of actions like:
Stage 1
At the beginning this will be mostly a landing page with 3 internal pages and a lot of links to civicrm.org page but will be a good starting point
* Build a landing page with 3 main sections
* a "What is CiviCRM" internal page with features, videos and some information
* A "Get Help" page with an explanation of resources (forum, wiki, etc...) and links to civicrm.org page
* Get involved page with links to civicrm.org get involved
* Include in the landing page a "Blog Section" with some posts translated (mostly from CiviCRM News feed but open to others)
Stage 2
* Create a section of use cases translated in the site language or country
* Create link to a trasnslated demo with some dummy but local data
* Put local partners in Get Help
* Promote local events and meetups (even if the registration page and event are still managed by civicrm.org)
* Others TBD
Stage 3
Build the community
* Create a login section
* Manage events from the local civicrm
* Send translated newsletters
* Others TBD
Open questions:
* Managing events from civicrm.local or civicrm.org?
* Managing a local civicrm for local or w/ groups in
* List of providers in civicrm.org and local website (will be great to have a "Language" field in the partner form) |
