Investigate / discuss CiviCRM becoming a Linux Foundation Community Project
The Linux Foundation hosts 980+ open source projects.
We could potentially benefit from leveraging their economies of scale and potentially cross-pollination of developers between us and their projects, etc. We might be able to reduce our overhead in one or more areas around our technical infrastructure, etc. ?? We might also benefit from learning more about best practices in stewarding and growing contributors (devs, documenters, CiviCamp participants, etc.) and other aspects of community stewardship. For example, I just discovered their project that helps communities improve their diversity and inclusion.
See https://www.linuxfoundation.org/projects/hosting . Opening this issue as a place for discussion of pros and cons. I'm intending to learn more when Gena (Skvare) and I attend their major OSS NA 2024 event in Seattle next week on behalf of CiviCRM https://events.linuxfoundation.org/open-source-summit-north-america/ .
