@eileen @colemanw and @DaveD what do you think of this solution for #114 (closed)?

With an older version version of civicrm, I mark the legacy custom searches extension as obsolete so it disappears from the require list.

This seems like a pretty good way to hack around the problem.

I guess the "non-hack" way would be to maintain two branches of this extension and make releases targeting an older version of CiviCRM from one branch, and releases targeting later versions from the other branch.
