# CiviCRM User Guide
This book is a guide for users of CiviCRM and covers
everything they need to know
to work with CiviCRM on a day to day basis. Our aim is to cover all
functionality that is available via CiviCRM's user interface.
Although we do not cover system administrator or developer topics,
CiviCRM developers and system administrators will also find this book
useful as a guide to everything you can do with an 'out of the box'
CiviCRM.
Some aspects of CiviCRM (such as installation, or custom development)
are technical and outside the scope of this book. Although they are not
covered here, we do point to other relevant sources of technical
document which should be useful for people (like your service provider,
or technical staff) who understand them.
This guide is freely available to read online. It is collaboratively written by the CiviCRM community (see the
[History of this book](/appendices/history-of-this-book.md) chapter for more details). You can help write this
guide and help with other documentation efforts by learning more about [contributing to this guide](/the-civicrm-community/contributing-to-this-manual.md).
## Scope of this guide
This guide is for [CiviCRM](https://civicrm.org) users and covers all the functionality available through CiviCRM's web-based interface.
### User Guide vs System Administrator Guide
We also have a [System Administrator Guide](https://docs.civicrm.org/sysadmin/en/latest) which covers installation, upgrades, and some of the more complicated setup tasks.
The two guides have some overlapping scope when it comes to setup and configuration. In general, we try to cover actions in the User Guide which the user can perform from within CiviCRM's user interface. Actions that require work outside of the CiviCRM interface (e.g. file-system or shell access) are covered in the System Administrator Guide.
