civicrm.org: simplify user moderation for admins
Context: CiviCRM.org has historically had a lot of spam-account requests. Since this grants access to JIRA, forum and Gitlab, for the past 1-2 years, we have been moderating accounts manually. This process is slow and tedious.
Random thoughts:
- The moderation process is slow because the website is slow
- Validating/enabling an account requires more than a few clicks.
- Validating is increasingly hard because spammers are getting smarter and passing our Turing tests. (more probably: spam accounts are created by actual humans)
- It's difficult to validate when English is not their native language, because we don't know if it's spam, or just broken English (and CiviCRM needs to make more efforts to support non-English communities).
- Currently we use Mollom to validate email addresses. Are there other sources we could validate against?
- It would be nice if some of the tools used had ways to detect spam: ex: "this user is new and we'll only let him post one issue until further moderation has been made".
