Update the WelcomeBot plugin for MM
Newer versions of the welcomebot plugin we already run can do per-channel welcome messages. Useful for ~dev-newcomers
and ~gsoc
amongst other channels for getting people off to a flying start with curated resources, for example I'd like to do the following for ~gsoc
/welcomebot set_channel_welcome Welcome to the Google Summer of Code channel on CiviCRM MatterMost. Here's some information to get you started:
* The list of available projects can be found in the [Google Summer of Code projects](https://lab.civicrm.org/community/gsoc/) repository.
CiviCRM's core code is here:
* https://github.com/civicrm/civicrm-core
With CMS specific integrations here:
* https://github.com/civicrm/civicrm-drupal
* https://github.com/civicrm/civicrm-wordpress
* https://github.com/civicrm/civicrm-joomla
* https://github.com/civicrm/civicrm-drupal8
* https://github.com/civicrm/civicrm-backdrop
You'll find the developer guide here: https://docs.civicrm.org/dev/en/latest
If you face difficulties in setting up CiviCRM locally, you can ask in ~installation-support and you can discuss any code related issues in ~dev-newcomers.
There are many tutorials based on CiviCRM on YouTube as well. https://youtu.be/XxexhDSzSME . Some people are often confused in the beginning about extensions on how they are made or used within CiviCRM. For that you can refer to this https://youtu.be/lrk8X_jt0wU.
After setting up and going through code a bit, you can go through these issues list https://lab.civicrm.org/groups/dev/-/issues . You can discuss these issues with other people within the community which will help you know more people and also you will learn more about the CiviCRM codebase.
